Guest Post: Hot Hair Colour Trends for 2012

Hair colour trends come and go, what’s hot one year is passe the next! Although you can of course choose to colour your hair any shade you want – its your hair after all – here is a breakdown of the shades, colours and dye techniques that are lighting up the fashion world this year:

Grey Hair

This year is proving that grey hair is not just for old ladies after all, as younger fashionistas are taking the plunge and adding a little silver to their locks. Led by TV personality (and newly super slim) Kelly Osbourne the grey look is one of the hottest hair trends of the year. Purple and blue tinges are acceptable (Kelly has rocked both) and you can go as light or as dark as you like.

Bombshell Red

Inspired by Joan from Mad Men – aka the lovely Christina Hendricks, poster girl for voluptuous women everywhere – the bombshell red look is another big emerging trend. Not a timid shade though – a full on fiery red that demands attention from everyone in the room. In fact the look is so hot that the other female star of Mad Men – Betty Draper aka January Jones – has recently (in real life anyway) swapped her pale blonde hair for a fire truck red that is very similar to her co-stars!

Strawberry Blonde

If on the other hand you are looking for a more subtle look while still adding depth and interest to your look you could opt for a subtle strawberry blonde look, a style that simply screams Old Hollywood glamour. The strawberry blonde look is great for ladies with paler skin as the red tones add a very special glow to otherwise slightly pasty skin!

Megan Fox Brown

She may not be the greatest actress in the world (in the critics opinion anyway) but she is still one of the hottest – and most envied – women in world. Her signature hair colour – a rich, deep brown that has subtle auburn highlights – is a look that is being requested a great deal in salons all over the world right now. Who said that blondes had more fun? Not Megan that’s for sure!

Buttery Blonde

Speaking of blonde, the hot look this year is not Lady GaGa platinum but softer shades of buttery blonde that are light and bright without being too harsh. Charlize Theron had been sporting the look beautifully until recently – when she shaved off all of her hair for a new role (and still looks stunning!)

Dip Dye

The dip dye look – in every colour of the rainbow – is the hot teen trend this year. Not as drastic as a full head colour change this is a look that is easy to pull off and if you use one of the great semi permanent dyes that are out there right now you can opt to change colours every few weeks if the fancy takes you!

Ombre Hair

The ombre look is very, very low maintenance but it is still a look that many women can pull off beautifully. Inspired by just how beautiful ombre haired mom to be Drew Barrymore looked on her wedding day an increasing number of ladies are stepping away from the bleach bottle and embracing this trend.
